“Tinubu never betrayed NLC”—the presidency slams Ajaero over fuel price hike

Joe Ajaero, head of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), was roundly criticized by the Presidency for claiming that head Bola Ahmed Tinubu had deceived labor leaders by raising the price of gasoline.

According to Ajaero, workers took the N70,000 national minimum wage on the premise that the price of PMS would not go up.

In response to Ajaero’s claim, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Print Media, took to his verified X account, @Abdulfagge, to state that he had been present at Tinubu’s discussions with labor leaders at the last two meetings and that no proposition had been made to raise petrol prices in exchange.

Abdulaziz claimed that Ajaero was engaging in “dirty politics” by appealing to Nigerians’ emotions.

He contradicted Ajaero’s claims by saying that he was present at both sessions and that no deal was made to increase fuel prices.

Regarding the minimum wage, I was present at both of President @officialABAT’s talks with labor leaders. Neither meeting resulted in a counteroffer to the fuel price increase.

Using the emotions of Nigerians, “Ajaero is once again playing his dirty politics,” Abdulaziz remarked.
