Rema, a Nigerian afrobeats superstar, has responded to rumors that he received $3 million to play at the wedding of Anant Ambani, the son of Asia’s wealthiest man Mukesh Ambani, and Radhika Merchant, the daughter of pharmaceutical magnates Viren and Shaila Merchant.

As previously reported by Worldoh, Rema became famous after performing at the wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant on July 12 at Mumbai’s Jio World Centre in Bandra Kurla Centre (BKC).

Hindustan Times reports that Rema was compensated $3 million to play his internationally acclaimed single “Calm Down” during the occasion.

Rema was asked to weigh in on the report that went viral during a recent interview with GRM.

Questioner: “Did you really receive three million dollars for officiating Ambani’s wedding in India?”

Rema: “Aye. Frankly, that’s all I have to say. In terms of cost, nevertheless, the treatment was excellent. A sight to behold.

My heart belongs to India. I am also loved by India. Being able to appreciate something for which I was teased and criticized is truly a blessing. And I am now reaping the rewards of that.

Just think about the consequences if I were to halt. Envision a world where I changed my voice based on what the internet trolls said.

It has paid off, and it will continue to do so for at least another four years. There is a lot of land in India. It’s true that I’ve toured India before any other afrobeats musician.

I’d like to think I’m the first African, but if I’m mistaken, I ask that you kindly pardon me. But it’s quite significant.

“The wedding is only one small part of it. It all comes down to the reception. When I was touring India, I had no idea how they could tell. The paparazzi follow me everywhere I go when I go out to dine. The love in Nigeria isn’t as crazy as this.
