Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho of Kogi East has pleaded with the youth of the region to exercise patience ahead of the nationwide demonstration on August 1.
In spite of the present economic difficulties, Echocho is certain that better times are on the horizon.
As economic difficulties worsen, many are becoming increasingly frustrated and demanding change, prompting the senator to make this comment.
Echocho released a statement in which he understood the challenges Nigerians were experiencing but emphasized the need to have faith in President Bola Tinubu’s goals and strategies for the country’s progress.
He voiced hope that the president will be able to keep his promises and stressed that the sacrifices people are presently making are short-lived but essential for the betterment of society in the long run.
The president’s changes will take time to take effect, he said, so the youth should be patient.
Echocho enumerated many actions done by the federal government to tackle hunger and other urgent problems. One of these is the provision of capital assistance to market women.
Another is the distribution of fertilizers to farmers. Still another is the sale of crude oil to Dangote in naira to encourage production activities.
Lastly, there is the turnaround maintenance of federal government-owned refineries, which is scheduled to begin before the end of this fiscal year.
A focus on the well-being of the people and efforts to improve their lives are top priorities for the government, he added.
While his appeal is a beginning in the right direction, he acknowledged that more must be done to alleviate the immense suffering in Nigeria and emphasized the essential necessity of unity and solidarity in these difficult times.
Finally, he emphasized that Nigerians must stand together in these difficult times if they are to overcome the obstacles they are facing and create a brighter future for themselves and their children.
