Reps will confront the matter urgently when the session resumes—Lamara Betara on Maiduguri Flood

The victims of the Maiduguri flood have the support of Aliyu Muktar Betara, chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Betara has assured the victims that the housh will intervene when the session resumes.

While conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the flood tragedy in Maiduguri on Thursday, Betara—who represents the Biu/Bayo/Shani and Kwaya Kusar Federal Constituency of Borno State—made this information public.

When the House returns from its yearly recess in a few weeks, Betara promised that the water catastrophe, a huge humanitarian catastrophe, will be considered as an issue of urgent public importance.

Betara mourned the loss of life and expressed her gratitude to Governor Zulum for his swift action to mitigate the flood disaster’s impact on Maiduguri.

He also gave N100 million to help the residents of Maiduguri who were hit by the earthquake.

As previously reported by Worldoh, 37 people have lost their lives in the devastating Maiduguri floods that began last week on Friday, according to a report released by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

Thirty more fatalities have been reported as of Thursday, September 12th.

During her remarks on the ongoing nationwide flooding, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), stated that 1,048,312 people have been affected, 625,239 have been displaced, and 259 have lost their lives as a result of the flooding.

The affected areas span 29 states and 172 local government areas (LGAs).

The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has reported that 3,683 individuals have been rescued from their houses as a result of the devastating flooding.
