Public employees in Ogun State have received assurances from Governor Dapo Abiodun that his administration will take action to stop promotion backlogs.
Abiodun urged the civil servants to remain steadfast in their adherence to the moral standards and values that guide public service, even as he pledged that his administration will not disregard their contributions to the state.
The governor made this statement during a 2024 Public Service Week celebration held at the Governor’s Office, Oba’s Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, with the theme “Building a Socially Responsive Public Service in the 21st Century: The Place of Ethics and Values.”
Abiodun emphasized that ethics and values are fundamental concepts that guide behavior and serve as the cornerstone for establishing credibility and confidence.
We are aware that in 2023 and 2024, a few of you are eligible for promotions. I can promise you that in order to prevent a backlog of promotion exams, we are setting up procedures and interacting with the Head of Service’s office.
He remarked, “Be assured that we cannot afford to ignore or play around with the careers of our very vibrant and energetic public servants.”
The governor said that he had given his approval for the National Council of Establishment’s resolutions to be domesticated with regard to admission requirements and career advancements.
“The adoption of a number of National Council of Establishment resolutions, pertaining to entry requirements, career advancements, and other establishment matters in the public sector, has my gracious approval.
“By introducing the formal health insurance program with a 50% subsidy reserved only for our public servants, our administration made a tremendous contribution to improving the wellbeing of our employees.
“This implies that Ogun State laborers will contribute a mere N500 each month, in contrast to the N1,000 contributed by other recipients of that program,” he continued.
He insisted that over the course of the previous five years, his administration has continuously shown its dedication to the development of human capital and capacity within the state public service. He also mentioned the substantial financial commitment made to support public employees’ attendance at professional conferences and seminars both domestically and abroad.
