Possible emancipation of Boko Haram leaders: Governor Zulum’s Statement on the Maiduguri Flood

Some Boko Haram leaders may have escaped from prison in Maiduguri during the catastrophic flooding, according to Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum.

When asked by the BBC if he was concerned that any Boko Haram leaders might have escaped because of the floods, he confirmed this.

In case you forgot, the Ngadda River overflowed and flooded Maiduguri and a few nearby communities.

Victims and property valued in the millions of naira have been swept away by the devastating floods.

The floods reportedly forced the evacuation of certain prison inmates, and some of those inmates managed to escape.

“I am concerned, yes, I am very concerned,” Zulum stated in the interview. Keep in mind, too, that many insurgents have found repentance thanks to the Borno Model of Rehabilitation, which was set up by the Borno State Government.

“In the past two years, more than 200,000 individuals associated with Boko Haram have expressed remorse, which, in my opinion, has contributed to the restoration of peace and stability in Borno State.”
