Workers in Adamawa State are now receiving the minimum salary of N70,000 from the state government.
According to Worldoh’s confirmation on Saturday morning, employees who are typically paid by the state government often receive their paychecks on the 23rd of every month, which in this case was Friday, August 23.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri had promised that the new minimum wage will take effect this month, and Friday’s payment of N70,000 was the execution of that commitment.
“I can confirm to you that the salary increase has been effected and I received it,” revealed Amos Tumba, a public official, regarding the new trend.
“Yes, they have paid, and it’s the new package,” Amma Yohanna, another government worker, stated.
Earlier in the week, on Monday, August 19, Governor Fintiri assured visiting labor groups that the increased minimum wage will likely be paid for August.
Following a private meeting at Government House Yola, where Fintiri made the promise, Emmanuel Fashe, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), informed reporters of the development later that day.
On the other hand, Fashe had mentioned that employees of state governments will start receiving the new minimum wage this month, while those of local governments would have to wait until September 2024.
