Igbo group fears that Tinubu’s harsh policies may lead to a totalitarian regime in Nigeria

The AlaIgbo Development Foundation (ADF), an Igbo think tank, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against plunging Nigeria into yet another dark age of severe authoritarianism and totalitarianism.

Joe Ajaero, president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has been the target of persistent and systematic threats, arrests, and intimidation by agents of the Nigerian government’s security apparatus, which the group denounced categorically.

This was stated in a statement that was released in Enugu on Wednesday and signed by the group’s National Secretary, Mr. Abia Onyike, and National President, Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie. Threats and abuses against prominent members of civil society were denounced by the organization.

President Bola Tinubu was accused by the organization of betraying the economic well-being of Nigerians by caving in to foreign capitalist cartels.

Having sold out to international finance capital and the imperialist metropolis of the North-Atlantic Western powers, President Tinubu has chosen to use the security agencies to impose his anti-people economic policies through force and intimidation.

It is unfortunate that he has chosen to follow this ignoble path.

The group urged President Tinubu to reconsider his harsh economic measures immediately, saying that time is of the essence.

Following an analysis of Ajaero’s interactions with the security forces, the ADF has reached the inevitable conclusion that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is determined to lead Nigeria back into a period of harsh authoritarianism, marked by the wrongful detention of innocent people and arbitrary arrests.

The ADF sees the Tinubu administration’s decision to harass and intimidate civil society leaders as a sign that it has failed miserably in protecting the country’s democracy.

This is due to the administration’s disastrous economic policies, which have resulted in widespread poverty and unbelievable levels of hunger among the population.

The Tinubu administration has become a huge threat to Nigeria’s newly-won democracy, and we’re not afraid to say so.

Tragically, President Tinubu has betrayed the people of Nigeria by selling out to the imperialist metropolis of the North Atlantic and international finance capital.

Now he is using the security agencies to impose his anti-people economic policies through the use of force and intimidation.

It is the hope of the ADF that President Tinubu will reconsider his harsh economic policies before it is too late.

He should reevaluate his anti-people policies immediately rather than resorting to harsh measures to suppress mass organization leaders, which would lead to the return of extreme authoritarianism and totalitarianism to Nigeria.

The ADF stands in solidarity with the labor movement, civil society organizations, and popular-democratic organizations that are fighting Tinubu’s harsh economic policies.

After the National Assembly and the Judiciary were undermined, the only formidable opposition that can confront the Tinubu administration is the Nigerian labor movement, and we acknowledge this.

This underscores the regime’s utter desperation and its resolve to wipe out the labor movement’s top brass.

Security forces’ raid on the Abuja offices of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Projects (SERAP) is another issue that the ADF vehemently denounces.

An ultimatum was issued by the group to the Tinubu administration to rescind the current petroleum price hike implemented by the Federal Government agency NNPC, which is why the Abuja office of SERAP was invaded.

“Under terrible economic policies, when the masses are traumatized by poverty and pestilence, ADF believes that Nigeria’s democracy cannot be consolidated.” free up funds for projects.
