The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has been directed by former Senate President Senator Ahmed Lawan to supply additional relief supplies to communities hit by flooding in Yobe State’s Nguru and Karasuwa local government areas.
While visiting the two local government districts that were impacted by the recent flooding to evaluate the damage and provide consolation to the displaced families, the legislator made the call on Saturday.
He expresses gratitude to NEMA for its efforts in helping the victims.
To meet the short- and long-term needs of people impacted by natural catastrophes, additional work must be done.
“I asked NEMA to urgently provide more relief supplies, including food, clothing, shelter, and medical equipment, as well as support to the affected communities,” the speaker stated.
In order to lessen the effects of future floods, Lawan also urged the federal government to create sustainable solutions, such as building drainage systems and embankments to regulate water flow.
“I further encouraged the impacted communities within my Senate District to collaborate with law enforcement and adhere to safety protocols,” Lawan concluded.
