The state government will spend 3 billion naira for the 263 international students, according to Chaka Nweze, Chairman of the Ebonyi State Scholarship Board.

Not long after briefing the recipients of the international scholarship at the Exco Chamber, Old Government House in Abakaliki, Nweze informed the media of this.

According to the chair of the board, students can get their Master’s and Doctoral degrees thanks to three billion naira provided by Governor Francis Nwifuru.

But he did praise the state governor for helping out the foreign scholarship recipients in any way he could. He also said that the scholarship board had no problems with the process because Governor Nwifuru had already paid for the ministry to help the candidates.

as the state governor has previously financed the board, and as the board was equally funded when we were performing national scholarship, we do not have any difficulties with the foreign scholarship.

The recipients of the international scholarship have been identified, and we have equally covered their educational expenses.

Their living expenses will be provided to them at any moment.

Spending close to three billion naira is what the state government will end up doing for master’s and doctoral degrees.

The government would allocate fifteen billion naira (about $1 million) for the national scholarship program this year alone.

We need to supply them with aircraft tickets and visas, therefore we may need to provide another 500 million naira for their logistics.

The governor has already granted 10 billion naira for the overseas scholarship.

Some pupils may need to obtain visas as they do not have passports; each visa costs about 490 pounds.

The government of Ebonyi State has begun collaborating with schools abroad.

We have been in touch with the university we are currently using since before this trip, when I went to the UK with the Commissioner for Tertiary Institutions to meet with them. They have provided us with guidelines to adhere to.

The first group of 212 scholarship recipients will travel to the UK by the month’s end, out of a total of 263 recipients, he said.
