Significant controversy has been caused by recent charges implicating high-profile Nigerian government officials, including Bashir Hadejia.
It is believed that Hadejia is one of the organizers of the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations.
On Monday, August 5, he was taken into custody and charged with “treason and subversion against the state.”
Since his detention, images and videos have surfaced that connect Hadejia to prominent government figures.
Hadeija has been charged with disseminating false information and is allegedly implicated in severe transnational crimes.
Following allegations that the suspect indicated the names of high-ranking government officials while being questioned by the Nigeria Police Force’s Force Headquarters, his detention has drawn criticism from a variety of sources.
Contrary to claims, sources claim that he never mentioned Matawalle, the state minister for defense.
Sources also revealed that certain politicians are putting in a lot of effort to create a connection between the suspect and the state minister of defense in order to fulfill a predetermined motive.
Matawalle has refuted the accusations in public, highlighting his dedication to public service and national security.
The sources have cautioned the public to treat the assertions with caution while investigations are ongoing, voicing concerns that they could be used as a distraction from the main topics being looked into.
Hadejia’s arrest was applauded in a statement by a few ethnic nations, including the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF), Northern Awareness Network (NAN), and Yoruba Youth Council (YYC).
Hadejia’s arrest was the result of coordinated efforts by the nation’s security network, including the Armed Forces, Police, and other security agencies, under the direction of Minister of State for Defense Bello Matawalle, National Security Adviser (NSA) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Defense Minister Abubakar Badaru, and President General of the AYCF Yerima Shettima, Chairman of NAN Salifu Suleiman, and the leader of the YYC, Comrade Eric Oluwole.
The declaration said, in part, that “Bashir Hadejiya’s confession has revealed a troubling network of criminality that crosses national borders, posing serious threats not only to Nigeria but to the wider West African region and beyond.
” His participation in the trafficking of firearms and the smuggling of gold taken from the Libyan Central Bank highlights a risky collaboration with transnational criminal organizations.
These organizations do more than just compromise our national security; they also supply the means by which terrorism and instability are exacerbated throughout West Africa, which is a flagrant violation of our peace and a grave insult to our sovereignty.
“In our joint battle against such security threats, the tireless efforts and unwavering dedication of President Tinubu’s security team—particularly the resolute efforts of key figures like the NSA and Defense Ministers—are quite commendable and essential.”
“We support giving these defenders the authority, funding, and equipment they need to handle challenging national security situations in order to strengthen our national security even further. The remarks went on to say that we can only hope to counter the ever-evolving dangers to our democracy with a well-resourced and backed security staff.
“We urge the Federal Government to supply the resources and equipment required for the security agencies to operate at their best, even as we applaud the administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for its efforts to safeguard our nation’s sovereignty.”
