Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has urged all residents and leaders of youth organizations and organized labor to skip the August 1 demonstration against poor leadership.
It is constitutional for the people to organize a peaceful protest to push home their demand, the governor said at the IBB Square in Makurdi, the capital of the state.
The troublemakers, he warned, might exploit the demonstration as an excuse to wreak havoc.
He brought up the #EndSARS demonstration and the recent protest in Ukum to say that social rallies like this can be disastrous since they lead to economic failures and deaths.
Benue is not a safe place to protest, according to the governor, a Catholic priest, because of the unstable security situation in certain areas of the state.
He went on to say that President Bola Tinubu was making an effort to lessen the impact of the country’s problems, which he acknowledged.
