A Pan-African program of the timbuktoo Fintech Hub in Lagos, Nigeria, the timbuktoo Fintech Startup Accelerator Programme assists firms that:

  • Utilizing digital tools and platforms to promote innovation and efficiency in the financial sector, these entrepreneurs are implementing technological solutions in the financial services industry. At their heart, their solutions are technology-enabled.
  • are helping to realize the following sustainable development goals (SDGs): startups that provide solutions that advance growth, industrialization, trade, health, education, and inclusive governance, among other SDGs.
  • Possess a high scalability: startups that exhibit high scalability in terms of their capacity to expand their user base quickly across African markets or through digital distribution methods.
  • Maintain an enviable stance: Startups that can defend their position in the fintech industry—whether through network effects, domain knowledge, intellectual property (IP) rights, or control in a particular region—are more likely to have a long-term competitive advantage.
  • Possess a robust monetization plan: startups that demonstrate a route to profitability and long-term financial viability through a distinct and sustainable monetization approach.

Eligibility Requirements For UNDP timbuktoo Fintech Startup Accelerator Programme

Applications are welcome from African entrepreneurs and startup founders, aged 18 to 35, with a focus on technology who can create, or are currently creating, fintech companies that fit the following requirements:

  • startups where the founders are African nationals.
  • Startups must be headquartered in any African nation and be locally owned.
  • In the financial services industry, startups are using technology to solve problems and take advantage of difficult development prospects.
  • businesses that have a minimal viable product.
  • startups that already have accountability, social and environmental safeguards, and corporate governance in place.
  • Only citizens of the member states of the African Union are eligible to apply.
