Application for civil service: Ogun government does away with age-based recruiting fees

The current recruitment exercise into the state’s public service is being funded by administrative fees. Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has ordered the Chairman of the public Service Commission to reimburse all of these payments.

The governor’s order followed a request for a demonstration in Abeokuta, Ogun State, by Revolution Now leader Omoyele Sowore.

Sowore took to Twitter to blast Governor Abiodun, calling out the cost as extortion and drawing attention to the unfairness of making jobless kids pay to apply for jobs.

Thursday, Abiodun demanded a refund for everyone who had paid the N10,000 charge. This request was made in a statement published by Tokunbo Talabi, the Secretary to the State Government, and addressed to the chairman of the Civil Service Commission.

In the statement, it was mentioned that the Civil Service Commission has been collecting fees from third-party independent examiners for decades in order to fund the CBT Test and its administration and supervision.

In a show of good faith and recognition of the country’s current economic situation, the state government has ordered the immediate refund of fees paid and a waiver for any new applications. This is all in an effort to alleviate the suffering of the citizens and create employment in the state, according to the statement.
