Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu announced on July 27, 2024, that energy generation hit a three-year high of 5,105 megawatts.

On Wednesday, during the first gathering of the Inter-Ministerial Power Sector Working Group in Abuja, Adelabu made the announcement.

His estimation is that there was a considerable rise from the prior documented 4,000 MW to the 5,105 MW.

He restated the national goal of 6,000 MW of generating and transmission capacity by the end of 2024.

“On July 27, we achieved a new record for the most power generation and transmission in the past three years, with 5,105 MW of power successfully generated and transmitted. The prior capacity was just about 4,000 MW, thus this is a significant increase.

His stated goal was to generate and transmit 6,000 MW by December, which would be a landmark achievement.

But as of August 5, 2024, the most recent numbers available from Generation Companies, GenCos, indicated that Nigeria’s power fell by 668.5 MW, from 5,105 MW to 4,436.50 MW.
