A House Committee guarantees financing for the Ogoni cleanup effort

Dekor pledged that in order to guarantee the prompt delivery of money for the expedited cleanup of Ogoniland, the committee would work with the NNPCL and the HYPREP Board of Trustees.

Dekor acknowledged the difficulties still facing the country but applauded the progress made so far and asked the administration to step up efforts, particularly in supplying water to the impacted communities.

Dekor stated, “We hope that they will not take this as a pat on the back, as we have also identified areas for improvement. We encourage them.”

At the conclusion of the exercise, some contractors may need to provide explanations, while others should receive praise.

In general, I believe what we observe matches our expectations. In fact, there were times when we didn’t think we would make it this far.

He guaranteed that NNPCL will carry out its duty by contributing money for the trench because it is their duty to address the environmental deterioration and deprivation that the people experience.

“I promise that whomever neglects to fulfill their end of the bargain and sees this project through to completion will be responsible for paying these monies.

“At the commissioning of the Bomu water project, we are trying to work on the possibility of looking at what is being owed and sources where we can generate some more revenue,” stated the chairman of the HYPREP Board of Trustees when I last spoke with him.

The funds allocated for this project were essentially a take-off grant, and they have nearly entirely been used. Therefore, we will collaborate with them to guarantee the provision of funds.

“However, I can promise you that NNPCL will make the necessary provisions for the trench that is rightfully theirs because they owe the people.”

Youths in Ogoni should reject social vices and help with the ongoing cleanup operations in the area, Dekor suggested.

HYPREP’s Project Coordinator, Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey, revealed that the organization is now overseeing more than 130 projects in the area, including mangrove restoration, cleanup along the waterfront, and remediation.
