Festus Keyamo, SAN, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, has criticized Royal Air Maroc, a Moroccan airline, for what he claims is the mistreatment of Nigerians on board.
According to the minister, the plane took off from Casablanca and was en route to Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, when a mechanical issue forced an emergency landing in Marrakesh, Morocco.
The Minister was enraged because the airline left its passengers—most of whom were Nigerians—without supplies, including food and shelter. Some of the passengers, including children and women, slept on the floor.
“I have just learned about the horrific treatment that some Nigerians endured at the hands of ROYAL AIR MAROC, @RAM Maroc, in Marrakesh, Morocco,” he posted on his official X handle.
Women and children are sleeping on the floor, and the bulk of passengers are Nigerian. The terminal staff has neglected them, leaving them without food and a proper place to sleep.
“Although I urge ROYAL AIR MAROC @RAM_Maroc to promptly address this matter, I have instructed the NCAA’s Consumer Protection Department to swiftly engage ROYAL AIR MAROC NIGERIA @royalairmarocng to provide these Nigerians with urgent relief.”
