As a result, we must endure the pains of climate change while our flora and fauna suffer greatly.
Natural resources have been exhausted and people have fallen into abject poverty as a result of exploratory activities such as gas flaring and seismographic works, among other harmful and destructive practices.
“To make matters worse, neither the federal government nor the multinational oil corporations have made any serious attempts to mitigate the consequences.”
Even the so-called pitiful 3% host community benefits promised by the Petroleum Industry Act, 2020, has not been carried out, asserts Ebikonbowei. There is still no resolution in sight for the pain endured by these communities.
