Capello cautions Atalanta not to sell Lookman

The sale of Ademola Lookman could ruin Atalanta’s hopes of winning the trophy this season, according to Fabio Capello, the former manager of AC Milan.

In May, Lookman scored a hat trick as La Dea won the UEFA Europa League final, 3-0, over Bayer Leverkusen.

Over the last two years, the 27-year-old has been recognized as Atalanta’s top performer.

Recent rumours have linked the Nigerian international with Ligue 1 winners Arsenal and Ligue 1 runners-up Paris Saint-Germain.

The nimble winger skipped Monday’s Serie A match against Leece after Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad rejected PSG’s request.

But Lookman was back in training with the rest of the squad on Thursday, so he should play a role in the match against Torino this coming Saturday.

It was Capello’s recommendation that Atalanta hold on to Lookman and the other elite players.

The departure of Koopmeiners and Lookman following the injuries sustained by Scamacca and Scalvini would make Gasperini’s job difficult, according to Capello, as cited by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
