On Thursday, Prince Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun State, stated that the proposed Nigeria Customs Service Zonal Office and Training School at the Gateway Agro-Cargo International Airport would help elevate the state to the position of national industrial hub.

Additionally, he mentioned that the Olokola Seaport and the projected Kajola Inland Dry Port would benefit from the project. He also mentioned that the federal government is seeking to revive a Liquefied Natural Gas Project in the vicinity, and that both of these projects would soon be operational.

While visiting the location of the proposed Zonal Office/Training School in Ilisan, Ikenne Local Government Area, Governor Abiodun revealed this to Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service.

He said that the state’s proposed Deep Sea Port and Dry Port will attract more investment, which would improve people’s lives.

In the governor’s view, the Customs would be better equipped to fulfill its responsibility to ensure proper procedures for the import and export of commodities if the school were situated close to the Agro-Cargo Airport.

He expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General for keeping the project on track and stressed the importance of Customs’ presence in the state in light of the upcoming Olokola Deep Sea Port and Liquefied Natural Gas Projects.

The governor stated that the cargo airport was created to incorporate the Special Agro-Processing Zone and an Industrial Park to process commodities for both local and export markets.

He also mentioned that the airport’s strategic location allowed it to offer access to the Lagos-Ibadan and Sagamu-Ore-Benin Expressways.

We had a very advantageous site for our airport. The state’s extraordinary position as the world’s leading producer of chicken, cassava, and premium cotton inspired its construction as the Special Agro-Processing Zone.

If we want our state to rank highly in Nigeria for how easy it is to do business, your presence is crucial. If the Customs are present, any potential investor will inquire about the investment. Our enormous progress is being augmented by you, Comptroller General. “The Customs will be the best in the world” under your supervision, the governor promised.

The governor went on to say that the Comptroller General has improved the efficiency of the government by implementing numerous commendable programs.

To enlarge its Federal Operations Unit in Lagos and to relocate the Zonal Office to Ogun State, the facility was necessary, according to the Comptroller General, who also mentioned that a comparable project was running in Kaduna State.

The facility might be finished ahead of time, according to Adeniyi, who also announced the creation of a Customs University in Lagos and said that funding and approvals were in place for it to begin operations.

According to the Comptroller General, the Ilisan-Remo training school is a N73 billion project that would create hundreds of jobs in the area, both directly and indirectly.

He is requesting the cooperation of the state government and its citizens to see this project through.

From the beginning to the end of this undertaking, Ogun State has been instrumental. The project’s goal is to back the governor’s efforts to let his people reap the benefits of democracy. We are pleased to align ourselves with the state government’s goal of making the state an economic powerhouse.

After this project is over, no customs in the entire African corridor would be able to approach us, Adeniyi said, adding that the rest of Africa looks up to us for leadership.
