Suspected gunrunners and arms traffickers in Niger State were apprehended, and 15 pump action rifles were collected by CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, the state’s commissioner of police.

During a news conference and the procession of about twenty-three wanted suspects at the State Police Command headquarters on Wednesday, the commissioner revealed the information.

He stated that a red Toyota Corolla with the license plate DKA 877 HJ was stopped by the police patrol team of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit assigned to SCID Minna on August 4, 2024, at approximately 1900hrs, while the unit was conducting routine patrols along Maikunkele-Tegina Road in Minna.

He went on to say, “The vehicle was stopped with three people inside, including the driver. During questioning, the suspects unexpectedly retreated. During the search of the vehicle, thirty (30) cartridges were discovered in a bag, and fifteen (15) automatic pump action rifles were discovered.”

In order to determine where the pump action rifles came from and what they were used for, the Commissioner indicated that the investigation was making great strides in locating the vehicle’s owner and apprehending the fugitives.

Danmamman elaborated by saying that the perpetrators will face prosecution upon their arraignment in court if they were apprehended alongside the vehicle’s owner.

He said the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) Minna was still looking into the matter.
