Shame on the Nigerian Government: HURIWA Claims They Employed Counter-Protesters

Some disgruntled Nigerians want to peacefully demonstrate against the country’s poor leadership, but the Federal Government is apparently supporting counterprotests to thwart their plans. HURIWA, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, has denounced this action.

“It was a clear show of shame that the same government that opposes the protests by persons opposed to bad governance has now begun funding protests against the end bad governance protests,” the group stated in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Uzodinma.

“This is completely illogical,” the party continued.

Federal government officials are allegedly paying N3,000 per head to hire phony demonstrators in the nation’s capital, according to HURIWA, who characterized this as an example of bad governance.

In addition, HURIWA claimed it was absurd that the Lagos State High Court could order the removal of ‘unknown protesters’ and other individuals from the official venues for protests, citing a list of defendants provided by the Lagos State Government.
